Week Long Fast: Day 1

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

As you know, I’m a big believer in the healing power of fasting to kick cancer’s sorry ass. Well it’s that time of the year where I do another week-long fast to help shed any pre-cancerous cells.

I’m wrapping up day 1 of my 7-day fast. Although I started the day with a ton of energy, it’s nearly 9:00 pm and I’m exhausted. That’s how I like it.

Normally I’m much more prepared going into a fast. But my mother’s hospitalization saw that I went into the fast by the seat of my pants.

All you can do is roll with it.

This morning, no bone broth. No bullet coffee. No water (UGH!). I just left for mom’s  place. Clearly I forgot about the fast.  So I just sucked it up, picked up black coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts, and headed over to mom’s to help her out.

Now before you fasting purist out there say anything, I’m not doing a water fast. I’m following Dr. Jason Fung’s guides on extended fasting. However, my fall fast will be water only.

The good news was I stayed busy all day. Meaning not a lot of time to think about the food I wasn’t eating. If you want to fast successfully, keeping busy is the key. Time just flies by. Oh sure the occasional stomach growling wave hits. But when you are busy it’s easy to ride that wave. Besides, it only lasts 10 minutes at a time.

The bad news was I was so busy I forgot to drink enough water.  Thankfully it didn’t lead to a headache. However, the hunger pangs hit when I got the bright idea to make her some chili for the week.

Yep. I cooked on day 1 of my extended fast.

Not too bright. But I didn’t eat one bite…not even to see if it needed seasoning.

All in all, that is pretty awesome.

I’m so ready for Day 2.

    Hi Dot-
I just saw your video about starting your fast. I wanted to share something I heard Dr. Jason Fung say. Apparently, both protein and carbs interfere with autophagy. So it doesn’t appear that the BP coffee will be a problem but the bone broth could halt process because if the protein. Just wanted to let you know since there’s as lot at stake for you.

I discovered you quite by accident on YouTube and I am so happy that I did! It’s like looking in a mirror watching you; you make me smile and I feel encouraged to keep on trying to lose my last 50!

Best of luck with your fast! Have you done a 7 day fast before? I’ve tried but only make it to day 5 or 6- then I see little sparkles and my ears start ringing. Nothing hurts, but it feels strange and I chicken out and eat something. I’ve read Dr. Fung’s book too, I know he says to stop if you don’t feel well (I wouldn’t say I feel unwell, just strange). Has this happened to you? I just drink filtered or mineral water and take a little pink salt now and then. I’m looking forward to your videos, thanks so much for posting them! 🙂

Oh- and check this out for your Mom- the best filter I’ve found, water tastes great and it even comes with a meter so you can check it. There’s a video that explains how it works on the page. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B009DAU1NE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, will you be making a post on what you eat when you break your fast? I’d be really interested.

    Thanks again,
    Leesa

    • Thanks for the tip on the water filter. I’ll check it out. I’ve done 7-day fasts before. I started them last year and do 2 a year. The plan is to try a water only this fall. I’ve only had one experience where I had to about day 3 into a 7-day fast. I felt horrible. I just didn’t go into the fast in the best shape (i.e., not fully keto). For me days 2 & 3 are the worst. But I’m feeling pretty good early into day 2, so we’ll see.
