Dot’s Awesome Keto Margarita

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Yes, it’s possible to enjoy a margarita and still be low carb. Just don’t drink too many of them (for various good reasons). Zero sugar, though we do use a sweetener, it gives all the flavor of margaritas for a fraction of the carbs.

◾Note: the nutrition for simple syrup is for the entire batch; not the serving size I used for a serving of margarita. For the portion of syrup I used in the margarita, I estimated the calories and carbs at 6.7 and 1.7g, respectively (again, this is for the syrup only). Also note: these numbers will fluctuate around based on how much you reduce it down. In the video, I reduced it “a little bit.”

🔔Ingredients:
3 oz. Tequila
2 oz. Freshly squeezed lime juice
¼ C Simple syrup (recipe below)
1 tbsp. Orange zest or ¼ tsp. of orange extract
¼ C water
3 C Ice cubes
1 lime wedge for serving (optional)
Water and Margarita salt for glasses (Optional)

🔔Simple Syrup Ingredients:
½ C Low carb sweetener (I used Swerve)
½ C water

✅Directions
1. Make your simple syrup by combining the sweetener and ½ C of water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Let simmer and bring temperature down if needed. Stir occasionally. Heat until sweetener has fully dissolved and “syrup” has reduced slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
2. Prepare glasses ahead of time by dipping the rim of each glass into a bowl of water and shaking off excess. Then lightly dip the wet rims of each glass into a bowl with margarita salt and shaking off excess salt. Set aside.
3. Using a blender, combine the ice, water, simple syrup, tequila, lime juice, and orange extract (if using) and set blender to “chop” or “crush ice” mode until ice is crushed.

✅ORANGE ZEST INSTRUCTIONS: If you are using orange zest instead of the extract, place the zest in a tea strainer and swirl the zest in the mixture a few times. Remove the strainer or cheesecloth from blender and pulse the blender 1-2 times to blend. Make sure you have the lid on tightly — yes, I’ve messed that up before 🙂
4. Pour evenly into margarita glasses and serve with lime wedge.
