Today is Day 1 of my 30-Day No Alcohol Challenge. To kick off things off, I decided to create a new playlist of the best drinking songs. Hey, if I can’t drink the stuff why not listen to songs about it while working out. I’m off to a pretty good start with a nice variety of music styles – from swing to blues to Irish folk.

The list isn’t complete. It lacks Reggae. I need something other than UB40’s Red Red Wine. I welcome suggestions from the Peanut Gallery.

40 Oz to Freedom – Sublime
All I Wanna Do – – Sheryl Crow
American Honky Tonk Bar Association – Garth Brooks
Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers – ZZ Top
Brass Monkey – Beastie Boys
Drunk Daddy – Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Drunken Lazy Bastards – The Pogues
Drunken Lullabies – Flogging Molly
Gimme Three Steps – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Gin House Blues – Nina Simone
Hey Bartender – Blues Brothers
Honky Tonk Women – Rolling Stones
Hurricane Drunk – Florence & The Machine
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer – John Lee Hooker
Seven Drunken Nights – The Dubliners
Somebody Put Something in My Drink – The Ramones
Sunday Morning Coming Down – Johnny Cash
The Boys Are Back In Town – Thin Lizzy
Too Drunk to F$#k – Nouvelle Vague

Tra La La, La La La

Tra La LaNote To Self: When starting your workout cool down, be sure this isn’t playing.

It started sleeting today, so I ended up going to the gym. When on the treadmill I usually do a 5 minute cool down. Well smack dab in the middle of my cool down, up pops the Dickies version of the Banana Splits’ theme song. Just too damn hard to slow down. I bet even Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper an’ Snork couldn’t do it.

Playlist – Take 1

I created my new playlists last night. It really is trial and error. I look for tunes to motivate, pick up the pace (so song order is very important), and battle fatigue. So here is what I came up with:

1. Supermassive Black Hole (Muse)
2. Hysteria (Muse)
3. The Tra La La Song (Banana Splits)
4. Pump It Up (Elvis Costello)
5. Don’t Stop Me Now (Queen)
6. Little Green Bag (George Baker Selection)
7. Learn to Fly (Foo Fighters)
8. Free Me (Joss Stone)
9. I’m a Man (Black Strobe)
10. Dog Days Are Over (Florence + The Machine)
11. Stand Up (Invaders Must Die)
12. So What (P!nk)
13. I Hate Myself for Loving You (Joan Jett)
14. Stuck in the Middle With You (Stealers Wheel)
15. Wake Up Call (Maroon 5)

With the exception of Supermassive Black Hole, I’m not confident on song order, but we’ll see how it goes.
