Plateau From Hell: Battling My Body’s Set Weight Point

weekly weigh in april 30

Not the progress I was expecting this week. I’m up a pound. Time to rethink my tactics.

Bleh! I was expecting a loss this week and instead I’m up a pound. What’s really frustrating is I’ve been bouncing between 182-185 pounds for a year. One. Freaking. Year.

Rethinking Tactics
I recently finished reading The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung. Regular readers know I love Dr. Fung’s blog and his online lectures. A review of his book is coming soon (hint, you should read it!), but right now I’m looking at shaking up my intermittent fasting tactics for one simple reason — changing my body’s set weight point.

It’s believed that our bodies have a set weight point. When a healthy person’s weight goes above or below that set weight, the body compensates — slowing or raising metabolism, increasing hunger or satiety hormones — and works to get back to that person’s set weight point. Read More

Weekly Weigh-In: Up Slightly

I'm up about 2 pounds thanks to a mental break on my part over the last 2-3 weeks.

I’m up about 2 pounds thanks to a mental break on my part over the last 2-3 weeks.

As of Saturday I’m up 2 lbs. It could have been worse, but thanks to lots of course corrections this week, I think I cut off a potential disaster.

Since I started my 21-Day Primal Challenge (more on that in a later post), I enjoyed a few items I rarely eat with greater frequency. I’m not sure why, as the challenge cautions against doing such things. I think I simply had a mental break.

Being diligent 24/7 ain’t easy folks!

Guilty Pleasures
So what are my guilty pleasures? Dark chocolate, sweet potatoes and fruit…oh my!

Dark chocolate. The higher the cacao percent, the better. I ended up buying Ghiradelli Intense Dark (86%) Midnight Reverie squares. They were on sale at the grocery store and in individual serving sizes. Perfect! My thought was the bag would last a couple of months. WRONG! Try less than a week. Clearly I have issues. Read More

Weekly Weigh-In: Got My Game Face On

I'm up a few pounds this week. Time to kick things into high gear as I implement my Dots & Blots rewards to motivate me for the last 60 lbs.

I’m up a few pounds this week. Time to kick things into high gear as I carry out my Dots & Blots rewards to motivate me for the last 60 lbs.

While I finished 2014 strong, I didn’t reach my goal of weighing 195 lbs. by December 31st. Sadly, as of today I’m actually up a few pounds.

The good news is I’m still in Onederland, but not by much. Thankfully the holidays are over. That means no more treats. No more parties.  Just time to get serious about losing my last 60 lbs.

My game face is on. Today I’m preparing for my new Dots and Blots rewards system (starting tomorrow). That means I’m menu planning, prepping my food for the week, and mapping my workout schedule.

The hardest thing on my activity list:  Squeezing in my 5K training and daily 5+ mile walks.

Burrr…its sooooo cold out! Thankfully we get a little relief next week as the weather’s suppose to reach the upper 30s and lower 40s. Practically balmy!  If it holds, then I can get my 3 runs and 6 walks in. Otherwise it’s off to the treadmill with me — something I loath.

I’m aiming to earn 50 dots next week. If I’m successful, I’ll be half way to getting my dumbbell charm.

Weekly Weigh-In: Up 7 Pounds; Back To Weight Loss Basics

I gained 7 pounds over 2 weeks. Ugh! I'm getting back to basics with my weight loss program.

I gained 7 pounds over 2 weeks. Ugh! I’m getting back to basics with my weight loss program.

Holy crap! Well my cheat days caught up to me with abandon. Over the last couple of weeks I gained 7 pounds. Yes, 7 freakin’ pounds. Ugh! So that puts me at 220…again.

Frustration doesn’t even come close to describe how I feel. But I’m not going to dwell on it. I’m going to do something about it.

Getting Back To Basics
No matter how much I think I have this weight loss thing down I do something boneheaded that proves me wrong.

I’m getting back to basics and using my tried and true formula that helped me drop 100+ pounds. So what am I doing? Read More
