Weekly Weigh In — Up 3 Pounds

I'm up 3 pounds this week. Not great, but not unexpected after eating lots of carbs while sick.

I’m up 3 pounds this week. Not great, but not unexpected after eating lots of carbs while sick.

Over the last 2 weeks I’ve gained 3 pounds. Those misgivings about eating lots of carb-laden soups and soft breads during my strep throat were well-founded. I also ate out a lot this past week — probably because I was cooped-up in the house for 7 days. While I ate the best low-carb friendly foods on the menu, I always do better on the scale when I make my own meals.

It doesn’t help that I’m sore from resuming my lower body workouts. Sore muscles mean water retention. Hopefully I’ll lose the water by next week’s weigh-in along with a few pounds.

While I’m not happy about gaining weight, I’m not freaking out either. I had a great physical and am no longer taking my blood pressure medication. I know I’m on the right path. I just have to keep chugging along.

Weekly Weigh-In: That Damn Peanut Butter

I'm up 3 pounds this week thanks to dipping a spoon into the peanut butter jar a few too many times.

I’m up 3 pounds this week thanks to dipping a spoon into the peanut butter jar a few too many times.

When I woke up this morning, I instantly knew the scale would show movement in the opposite direction. My bad knee swelled during the night. That along with incredibly sore abs and arms from my new upper body training meant I’m retaining some water.

When I walked into my Weight Watchers meeting I expected to be up a pound.  Not the three the scale showed.

Sigh…

Confession:  It’s not all water. I think the peanut butter has something to do with it too.

Our Old English Sheep dog has to take a pill with every meal. To make sure she actually eats the pill, we smear it with peanut butter.

The first time, I finished a workout and I needed to eat something. So, before I prepared the pill, I dipped the spoon in the peanut butter jar for some quick protein.  Well, over the course of the week, that little dip turned into a full-blown peanut butter monkey on my back. Before feeding Peekabu, I would take a little taste…or two. OK three, no four tops.

I just couldn’t help myself.

Well that’s not true. I could have, but it tastes so good when it hits the lips.

I think I need to let the husband feed the dogs for a while.

Weekly Weigh-In: Slightly Bloated

Thanks to water retention, no change in weight this week.

Thanks to water retention, no change in weight this week.

Yesterday my fingers swelled slightly and my ankles puffed up a bit. That continued this morning, right on cue for my weekly weigh-in. Awesome.

Thanks to the water retention and my pig-out fest on Wednesday, I feared the scale this morning.

Turns out I’m up 0.2 lbs. So basically the same as last week. I’ll take it. I lost nearly 8 lbs and I kept it off. I’m happy.

Weight Loss Lesson Of The Week
Eating right every meal except for one this week didn’t upset the apple cart. That’s why it’s important to get back on track immediately.

I’m expecting water evaporation in a few days. So I’m hopeful the scale will show me some love next Saturday.

Red Dollar Days Strike, Water Rentention Ensues

midolAbout a week earlier than expected, my period came a knocking this afternoon. How lovely. I found a nice eHow article on minimizing  water retention. Considering I’m doing a low carb diet, it should work like charm.  Although I need to add some berries into the mix this week.  Basically I’ll be cutting back on salt, drinking lots of non-carbonated water, and chowing on those leafy green carbs that are high in water content. Hopefully the scale will continue its downward trend when I weigh in this weekend, instead of adding 5 pounds of water. Sort of sucks since the brussels sprouts I was planning on roasting tonight are now off the menu as they add to the bloated feeling. Ugh!
